About Annapolis CBT

 FAQs

  • Annapolis CBT focuses on providing research-based treatments for adolescents and adults struggling with OCD, Anxiety Disorders, BFRBs, and emotion dysregulation. Our DBT program is for adults only; we do not have an adolescent DBT program.

  • At this time, we do not treat children and tweens. In order to uphold our dedication to providing specialized therapy, we refer clients with other presenting problems to specialists focusing on the following areas of therapy: Eating Disorders (such as Anorexia and Bulemia), Physical/Sexual Abuse, PTSD, Autism, Addiction/Substance Abuse Disorders, Hoarding Disorder, or Thought Disorders (like Schizophrenia). It is important to note that we will treat a client with a history of these diagnoses as long as it is unrelated to the current desired treatment.

  • If you find yourself (or teen) feeling stuck and struggling emotionally, mentally, and/or physically, it is time to get an expert’s assistance in meeting your goals. Other reasons to come are to have a safe space to discuss your thoughts and cope ahead with a prospective challenging situation.

  • The intake is 60 minutes and individual sessions can vary but are usually 45 minutes a week. Family sessions are typically 60-minute sessions.

  • At the intake session, we discuss your reasons for coming, how I can be of assistance, and gather general information about you to make an informed treatment plan.

  • Research shows that attending therapy on a weekly basis until your goal is met yields the best outcomes.

  • The length of treatment varies on the presenting problems. You should consult with your provider to gain better insight on how long you will need to come to therapy.

  • We work with primary care providers, psychiatrists/prescribers, and anyone else that helps support you. This collaborative approach is all done with your consent and written approval.

  • Intake sessions ICD-10 code 90791 are $275, 60 minute session ICD-10 code 90837 are $250, 45 minute sessions ICD-10 code 90834 are $225, and 20-30 minute sessions ICD-10 code 90832 are $185. If your sessions are virtual, you would add a GT after the ICD-10 code listed.

  • Annapolis CBT is considered an out-of-network nonparticipating provider. This means that we do not accept insurance but you may be reimbursed by your insurance should you have out-of-network benefits. A superbill is provided for you to submit to insurance for reimbursement. You are required to check with your insurance to see if our services are covered and payment is due at the time of service.

  • You can provide the service codes listed above to see if they will reimburse you for services provided by an out-of-network nonparticipating provider.

  • We offer services Monday-Friday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM ET. Clinical hours can vary but are usually offered during the same hours of operation.

  • Sessions are offered in-person and/or virtual. We use a secure HIPAA compliant platform to offer video sessions. If you have any questions regarding this process, please reach out to us here.

  • If therapy is not working we begin by assessing what continues to pose to be a challenge, what other strategies and therapies are available, and make the proper changes to the treatment plan. Assessment of progress and the need for change is part of the ongoing treatment process.

  • Annapolis CBT does not conduct medication evaluations or prescribe medications; nor does it conduct formalized psychological testing. Psychiatry and psychological testing referrals are provided when appropriate.

  • We require 48 hours notice for cancellation, even if you or your child is home sick. If you’re unable to come into the office, we can do a phone session or a video session (phone sessions usually aren’t reimbursable by insurance, but video sessions maybe), or can use the time for a parent consultation session.

We all get sick! I have previously worked in a hospital and college with long commutes, so we know how germs get passed around. That being said, my most important goal is maintaining clinical progress. If you start to feel sick more than 48 hours before our appointment, let us know and we will take you off the schedule. It’s a lot easier for us to fit in another client who needs to meet when you give us enough advanced notice.

In the case where your therapist is sick or cancels, you will be informed and won’t be expected to pay for that missed session.

  • Sometimes, the weather in the Annapolis area is bad - snowstorms and icy streets. Yet, Annapolis rarely closes during inclement weather. If you ever feel unsafe making it to the office, you can cancel with 48 or more hours’ notice. If it’s less than 48 hours, you will be expected to make it to the session - but we can always offer a phone or video session instead (again, phone sessions may not be reimbursable by insurance).

If Annapolis CBT determines that the weather is dangerous and we cannot make it to the office as clinicians, we will offer phone or video sessions from our home as an option.

The purpose to this approach lies in our commitment to maintaining clinical progress and honoring your and/or your child’s time. We need to have a plan even if the Maryland weather is unpredictable. We’ve found that maintaining session expectations during inclement weather means that we’re able to make clinical progress at the rate we expect.

Important questions to ask your insurance before starting treatment:

All insurance plans are different. Have this list of questions handy when calling your insurance company to determine the specifics about your plan.

  • Some insurances have a different deductible for medical vs behavioral health. Please ask if there is a difference and what is your behavioral health out-of-network deductible. This will let you know how much money you need to spend on out-of-network services before your insurance benefits kick in. Deductibles can be as low as $500 and as high as $3,500.

  • Finding out how much you’ve already spent on out-of-network deductible will let you know how much more you need to spend in order to meet your required out-of-network deductible balance. For example, if your out-of-network deductible is $1,000 and you’ve already spent $850, you will only need to spend $150 more before your out-of-network benefits kick in.

  • A calendar year policy starts on January 1 and ends on December 31. A “policy year” policy is a 12-month policy that will have a different start and end date, for example, August 1-July 31 depending on your plan. It is important to determine your policy period when factoring in how much more time you have to meet your deductible.

  • This is the percentage amount that your insurance company will reimburse you for each visit (after your out-of-network deductible is met). However, each insurance may have a specific per visit designated fee for an office visit which may not be the fee your provider charges. Let’s say your therapy visits are $150 per session and you have a 60% coinsurance but the insurance company’s designated session fee is $100. This means your insurance company will reimburse you for 60% of their designated session fee of $100, which is $60. After reimbursement, you will only come out of pocket $90 per visit.

  • Typically, you will need to obtain a Superbill from your therapist and submit it to your insurance company. A Superbill is a document your therapist will provide to you that will include dates of service, a diagnosis code, a CPT code, and your therapist’s NPI and EIN numbers. Insurance companies have different ways to submit the Superbill, typically through snail mail or fax. You will need to ask your insurance company or look on their website.

  • There is a time period after the “date of service” to submit the Superbill to your insurance company for reimbursement. So far, I’ve seen this range from 90 days to almost a year after the date of service. Make sure you find out how much time you have to submit the Superbill after “the date of service” when calling your insurance company.
